Originally active in the Philadelphia and New York jazz communities before settling in Boston, Meicht studied and performed closely with legendary saxophonist Odean Pope, appearing as part of Pope’s internationally recognized Saxophone Choir alongside artists including Joe Lovano, James Carter, and Michael Brecker. His collaborations over the years have included performances with many influential musicians, among them Ravi Coltrane, Darius Jones, Bobby Zankel, Steve Swell, Mike Pride, Charlie Kohlhase, Bill Lowe, Nate McBride, Curt Newton, Eric Hofbauer, the Makanda Project, Chico Freeman, and Charles Tolliver.
As a bandleader and recording artist, Meicht has released several acclaimed recordings including Live in Philadelphia, Illumine, and Loud Like Hemlocks, projects noted for their expansive ensemble writing and fearless improvisational energy. Critics have praised his playing for balancing expressive warmth with exploratory risk-taking; The New York Times described him as “a tenor saxophonist with a robust tone and a venturesome streak, though he isn’t averse to swinging.”
